Looking to create a capsule wardrobe for yourself? Read on to discover how.

1. Select your colour palette
Before curating your capsule wardrobe, start by determining a colour palette to guide your selections. You’ll want to choose a colour palette that complements your undertones, which also works together as a cohesive group.

Consider choosing neutral tones for key pieces such as pants and jackets, then use accessories to add interest and layer in some fun accent colours.

This season, we’re loving the colours found within Forever New and Kookai’s newest collections—so be sure to take a peek in stores for a little colour inspiration.

2. Choose your basic tops
A capsule wardrobe is centred around fundamental basics that are easy to wear and reuse with an array of outfits. You’ll want a range of tops to see you through every occasion—from the office, through to casual catch ups and nights out on the town.

A great place to start is with a crisp white blouse. Always a classic, a white blouse is a timeless addition to your wardrobe, which is sure to receive plenty of wear. Tuck it into a pencil skirt for a chic work outfit, or layer it over aged denim for a stylish weekend ensemble.

To shop classic blouses, head to Sportscraft and Witchery.

3. Find your fit in denim
There’s no denying that a good pair of jeans is an essential for every capsule wardrobe. No matter how the seasons change, denim is a year-round necessity.

This season, there are so many fresh new silhouettes to discover—think straight-leg, wide-leg, girlfriend cut, slim-cut, tapered, relaxed, Mom-fit, and more.

Spend time trying on a variety of styles to find the style best suited to your shape. If you need a hand, the team at Just Jeans or General Pants will be able to help you on your way to finding the perfect fit.

4. Layer in jackets
As we approach the cooler months ahead, jackets and coats become a vital component of your capsule wardrobe, allowing you to layer up and keep warm. To ensure you have a jacket for every occasion, we recommend selecting a casual jacket, a puffer jacket, a blazer and a longer coat.

Select tailored jackets in classic colourways, which can be intermingled with a range of items in your line up—just like the Girls Cleo Blazer Jacket from Decjuba. When choosing a winter coat, look for a quality piece that is practical and versatile. For example, an oversized trench like the Hanna Wrap Coat from Forever New will see you through from chilly mornings through to all kinds of weekend festivities.

5. Add accessories and footwear
No outfit would be complete without accessories and shoes! Add some personality to your wardrobe with statement accessories and shoes.

You’ll want to select a range of footwear to see you through the seasons ahead. Try a heeled boot from Novo Shoes, a classic loafer from Jo Mercer, and a stylish sneaker from Betts.
Then select a chic leather bag from Mimco and a patterned scarf from Sportscraft. Complete your capsule wardrobe with luxe everyday jewellery pieces from Lovisa—and voila! Your capsule wardrobe is complete.
